Question: Has anyone had a "shiver up your spine". An uncontrollable whole body shake lasting 1 second. I have often wondered what is it. It is not related to temperature like a cold shiver from cold weather
when it is not related to temperature. It only last like a second.
and it is not related to being in church. Although I do recall getting
them in church several times, grocery store, any where.
I know others get it as well.

I have seen things at different times in my life. I don't seek the experiences. I wish I understood more about what I see, what it means, what I'm supposed to glean from it or respond to & any other information I can get concerning it. I've had negative situations with said experiences and I have found that many churches are ill-equipped to deal with or help such persons effectively. There are times I have even gotten physical sensations both when I've seen spirits and when I've not seen them. I have learned so much from this website just in one day. I put it on shortcut to my desktop so I could quickly reference things I'd like to know about. If there is any direction or advice, it is welcomed. michaiah

Very useful comments on what sort of calling requires discerning of spirits. I"ve had it since shortly after Holy Spirit baptism (seeing God, angels, and demons in the spirit realm, and testing them to make sure they're from God if they seem to be). Good to know that my calling is not necessarily conventional deliverance ministry but could be a prophetic calling that requires a lot of discernment. However, for 4 years (longer than I've been baptized in the Spirit) I was involved in a "prophetic" and Word of Faith church that brainwashed me to block my common sense and get into unwise spiritual warfare situations for the sake of "faith," so I'm still getting that one right. (The Holy Spirit baptism happened elsewhere.) I love to see the God stuff, but the other stuff takes a while to get adjusted to, and there's always a responsibility to handle it right.

A spiritual awakening does not know the confines of man made religion, it knows only the spiritual way. Religions confine a spiritual awakening. Attaching rules and regulations to it, dogma and creed, suffocate its full expression. leave a spiritual awakening alone and let it grow without bondage or tetherance to anything but itself. This is true development of the spirit.

Glad you're blogging again!!

This reminds me of 1 Jn 4: For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.

Thanks for your blog and making your teaching available to all. I look forward to reading as you progress.
I don't attend your church, so feel free to delete the comment if you want.
I'm not sure how detailed you want to get with the background to Romans, but I thought you left out some important information.
Note:
Claudius, who reigned from 41-54 C.E. expelled the Jews, some 20,000, from Rome. (See Acts 18:2) This event is referred to by Suetonius and others and can be dated to C.E. 49 (McRay, pp. 225-226).

After the death of Claudius, his expulsion decree expired with him and the Jews returned to Rome in 54 C.E. and following.

The Book of Romans was likely written between 56-58 C.E.

Nero blames Christians for the fire in Rome in 64 C.E.

These historical facts paint a picture of what may have been going on in Rome at the time of Paul's letter. Gentile believers were left alone to learn how to "live out" the faith apart from those who were doing it for centuries. When those Jews returned (not all believers) they had serious conflict in how one lives out the life of Faith in Jesus.

Secondly, Jews had an exemption from Rome when it came to worshiping at the pagan temples. Jews who were apart of the synagogue did not need to participate. If Gentiles were not accepted by the authorities in the synagogue, they would not have this exemption. They would be left to either worship at pagan temples, or suffer the consequences imposed by Rome.
